Helping our national heroes head home

National Portrait Gallery
Brand identity

A brand identity and campaign to promote Coming Home – an exciting country-wide initiative that sees the National Portrait Gallery sending portraits of British icons from the national Collection to home towns and cities across the UK.

Through a simple rotation we turned a simple, iconic frame device into a clear symbol of travel – the compass. The journey inspired logo represented the idea that our national Collection was leaving the gallery and being transported across the UK.

Complimented by a modern twist on a traditional British colour palette, the identity put the artworks at the heart of the communications. The campaign language played on the idea of portraits ‘heading’ across the four corners of the country to places and communities with a personal significance to the artist or the sitter.
