The challenge

National Portrait Gallery’s Faces and Places is an ambitious schools outreach initiative that uses the Gallery’s diverse Collection of portraits to creatively explore connections between people and place – exploring what portraits can reveal about ourselves, each other, our locality and our present and past. The programme needed an identity to excite and engage young students with the Collection in a fun, accessible way.

The solution

Designed to reflect the hands-on, creative nature of the programme, we developed an identity that was playful and engaging, presenting portraiture in an accessible, light-hearted way. Expanded into a toolkit designed to fit within the Gallery’s wider programming activities, the assets were created with non-designers in mind, so that resources and tools could be easily created and work successfully in partnership with partners and funders.
